More and more people are suffering from food intolerances and allergies to everyday foods such as wheat, dairy and egg together with many people committing to lifestyle dietary choices for health and moral standards.
Kylie Martin, a local Toowoomba food importer and manufacturer at GK Gluten Free Foods/ TA GF Oats Australia, has faced this challenge in her family for over 20 years. She has developed a number of products and solutions to assist her desire not to feel as though they were missing out on anything, however, she believes her latest innovation takes the cake, or in this case the biscuit.
Let’s face it, as Australian’s we love partaking in national celebrations, however, if it means we can’t celebrate and enjoy the traditional food offerings that go with that day, life is not much fun.
Kylie and her partner Garry, celebrate importing and distributing Gluten Free Oats in Australia for 10 years this year and have a large customer base who are continually suggesting uses for the Oats. One resounding topic comes up year after year, with people desperately searching for the perfect recipe substitution for the National Australia icon we know as the Anzac Biscuit.
Kylie and Garry reached out to a professional recipe developer, Kitz Kitchens in Murwillumbah in Northern NSW, presenting them with the problem. They are experts in developing and manufacturing products for the gluten-free, vegan and organic market, and we’re definitely up for the challenge. Over 40 trials later, we all agreed on a biscuit that represented the traditional Anzac biscuit we knew and loved as kids, was also dairy free, nut free and was so delicious it exceeded all expectations.
Early feedback from pre-sales resulted in the biscuit being extremely well received and current distributors for GF Oats Australia pre-ordering over 80,000 biscuits from their first run. These biscuits will be presented in gorgeous packaging representing the poppies of Anzac Day.
Local and National Launch functions begin on April 1st.
